MDS Leadership

Mark D. Speedy

CEO

Mark Speedy is the founding member of MDS Builders. He relocated from Chicago, Illinois in 1987 to complete a large renovation and addition project for his former employer at regional shopping center in Delray Beach, Florida. He then decided to open his own company in 1989. Mark is responsible for the overall success of MDS and supervises all Planning and Operations of our company. His duties have included overseeing Sales and Marketing, Estimating, Project Management, Financial Management, Field Operations and all other organizational activities. Mark has built a platform and culture that assures the company will be able to maintain continued growth while also ensuring that every project is complete and on time and every customer is satisfied.

Mark has over 35 years’ experience in the construction industry initiating in Project Management and estimating. He is the license qualifier for our company and holds licenses in all the states we do business.

Mark has served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Palm Beach County Chapter. He has also served as a board member for the Palm Beach County Fire Code Review Board of Appeals and Adjustments.

Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Construction Technology from the University of Houston, in Houston, Texas.

James E. Baumann

President

Jim came to MDS Builders in 1990 while still attending college and started as a field assistant. After gaining field experience, Jim started assisting in Estimating and Project Management. Subsequent to his college graduation he transitioned to a full-time employee with MDS as an Estimator and Project Manager. Jim managed commercial, retail, office, medical and industrial projects.

In 1996, Jim was promoted to Vice President and Operations Manager. He continued with Estimating and Project Management duties in addition to overseeing the day to day operation of field personnel. Other duties included, accounting, insurance, legal and administrative.

In 2007, Jim became our President and gained additional responsibilities which include Planning and Operations management, Sales and Marketing, and all other organizational and administrative activities. Jim is pivotal to carrying on and maintaining the strong core ethics and principles upon which MDS Builders was founded by promoting a strong work ethic and partnering philosophy.

Jim is a graduate of Florida International University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. Jim has served as a member of the Palm Beach County Fire Code Review Board of Appeals and Adjustments.

David Pain

CFO

David co-founded MDS Builders and has been a partner since 1989. During his first seven years with the firm, David served as Chief Operating Officer and was responsible for planning, marketing, operations and financial management. He also developed and executed general corporate strategy, five-year and yearly business plans, sales/marketing plan, and all departmental policies and procedures.

David has recently begun serving as our Chief Financial Officer and has implemented management information systems that include fully integrated estimating, job cost, payroll, and accounting packages, along with PERT/CPM scheduling programs. David’s contributions have helped maintain our finance/operations, strong core ethics, and principles by fostering a proactive work ethic and partnering philosophy.

David is a graduate of Harvard Business School where he earned a Master’s in Business Administration with specialization in finance and operations management. David also achieved a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas.

Upon graduation, David reorganized under-performing departments for other firms, managed annual budgets, cut costs, achieved significant inventory reductions and implemented quality assurance programs. Once he joined MDS Builders, David also led all operations including Project Managers, field production/scheduling, financial/accounting, legal issues, general administration, personnel decisions, employee benefits, safety and quality control.

Lisa Olivas Taucher

Regional Vice President

Lisa joined MDS Builders in 2004 as the Regional Manager for our Midwest office located in Ohio.

She supervises all operations in the Midwest Office including Sales, Estimating, Project Management, Accounting and Administrative. Lisa’s responsibilities include project estimating, buyout and project management of subcontractors and suppliers. She coordinates all trades, field personnel and scheduling.

Lisa has been a Project Manager in the construction industry for 34 years and has extensive experience in design build, out of the ground construction, historical renovation, interior renovation, industrial, retail, and office space construction.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio University in 1986 and is a past President of the National Association of Women in Construction, Cleveland, Ohio Chapter.

Ashleigh LaRocca

Regional Vice President

Ashleigh joined MDS Builders in 2007 as a Facilities Project Manager in the Austin, TX office.  Ashleigh LaRocca is a seasoned professional in the realm of facilities maintenance, serving as a Regional Vice President since 2021, her focus is ensuring operational excellence and business continuity for clients nationwide.

In her role, Ashleigh is instrumental in problem-solving, tackling challenges with a strategic mindset and a commitment to delivering optimal solutions. She leads with a hands-on approach, managing project managers, vendors, and client relations with finesse and efficiency. Her dedication to fostering strong relationships with clients and vendors underscores her commitment to delivering exceptional service and exceeding expectations.

Ashleigh graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Public Administration and Texas A&M Health Science Center with a Master of Public Heath with a focus on policy, management, and emergency preparedness.

Eddie Mezardjian

Director of Business Development

As Director of Business Development, Eddie brings 30 years of executive management and operations to the MDS Team. A former business owner for 24 years, he has spent a significant portion of his life in high-end luxury residential construction. With his formal training in Civil Engineering, he also brings a rich project history of high-rise, industrial storage, hotel/hospitality, medical office, hospital construction and civil work to MDS. Eddie utilizes his field experiences to effectively guide MDS into new business opportunities.

A believer in the practice of creating partnering relationships that respect a clients’ needs while maximizing the abilities of MDS to execute and serve, Eddie is creating new venues for which MDS can find success and excel.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, he received a BS Degree from the College of Construction Technology. Eddie is also an accredited LEED professional, NCEER Certified Instructor, and has held his State of Florida Certified Building Contractor license (CBC047742) since 1989.
